TennentsTennents Tartan Army Cup Final

Perthshire TA 0, Bonnybrig TA 4 (0-2 HT)
29/04/07; Station Park, Forfar

Perthshire TA continue to be the bridesmaids in the Tennents Tartan Army Cup losing in the Final for the second year in a row. Both sides started off at a frenetic pace, and the first 20 mins was very even. PTA had the first attempt of the match with a long range effort calling for the best of the Brig Keeper in tipping over the bar. Brig hit the bar twice in the first 20 mins as the began to impose themselves on the match.

The crowd of over 50 TA were enjoying the free flowing football and it was midway through the first half when the Brig took the lead with a well worked move ending up with a close range finish. Brig added a 2nd before halftime and this was just rewards for their overall play.

PTA had a real go in the 2nd half but things went from bad to worse when a defensive mix-up gifted the Brig a third goal. Brig were now stroking about the ball with real confidence and PTA were chasing shadows, unable to retain possession for any length of time.

The clock was ticking down towards the 90 mins when the Brig saved the best till last. A sublime passing move the whole length of the pitch carved open the PTA defence ending with a good finish at the back post.

It was back to the Plough Inn for some well earned Tennents Lager, burgers and sausage rolls. Thanks to Mark McCreery, we were able to watch the whole match again on the projector screen, although it was not great viewing for the Perthshire boys. The 4th goal was rewound several times as the Brig rightly enjoyed their victory. The karaoke was on next with several renditions of "We are the Champions" as well as some TA Favourites.

Special thanks to David McGregor, Chairman of Forfar Athletic FC and groundsman Martin for the use of the facilities; Ian Whyte from the Plough Inn, Forfar for his hospitality; and Mark McCreery for recording the match. A DVD of the final will be available soon (with any profit going to the EASTA charity, the Dean Hird Appeal).
